Silver-based compound fights bacteria

Teva footwear products, marketed by Deckers Outdoor Group, will soon be available with a silver-based antimicrobial compound that is effective in combating a broad range of bacteria, mold and mildew.

This built-in protection against odour-causing bacteria suppresses the offensive odours often associated with athletic sandals.

Boston, Mass.-based AgION Technologies developed the antimicrobial and worked closely with Starsensier, an international textile manufacturer to provide Deckers with the compound.

“We are always pleased to see silver-based products incorporated into everyday consumer items such as footwear,” says Paul Bateman, executive director of the Silver Institute.

AgION Technologies’s flagship product, AgION antimicrobial compound, is an inorganic material used in the manufacture of biomedical and consumer products.
