Shore sizes up Star kimberlite (October 17, 2006)

Geological modelling of the Star kimberlite near Fort la Corne, Sask., has put the size of the body at 276 million tonnes.

Project operator Shore Gold (SGF-T) and consultants from A.C.A. Howe International and SRK Consulting made the estimate from a 311-hole database on Shore’s wholly-owned property and on the adjoining Fort la Corne joint venture, which Shore shares with 40% partner Newmont Mining (NEM-N, NMC-T).

The kimberlite is made up of five phases, Cantuar, Pense, and Early, Middle, and Late Joli Fou, plus an upper debris-flow unit. The Early Joli Fou phase makes up 163 million tonnes of the body.

About 30% of the body — 81 million tonnes — is on the joint-ventured ground.

Shore is in the midst of a $60-million pre-feasibility study on Star, which will provide a mineral resource figure once bulk sampling and large-diameter drilling have established grade and diamond value figures for the kimberlite.
