Sherritt acquires titanium equipment

The company says it will be able to develop a new line of special metal powder products based on titanium. These products will be manufactured and marketed by a unit of Sherritt’s special products division at Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.

Titanium alloy powders are used primarily by the aerospace industry for manufacturing near net shape components and other structural parts where properties of light weight and high strength are required. Among the applications are aero gas turbine engines, airframes and related aerospace structures.

Titanium-based powders are new product additions to a number of special metal powders currently manufactured and marketed by Sherritt including nickel and cobalt mono component powders, nickel-coated composite powders, nickel alloy-clad composite powders, cobalt-samarium alloy powders and ultra-fine nickel and copper powders.
