The company expects to have the mobile plant completed and ready for service in early September of this year. The plant incorporates the latest technological developments in the field of bacterial leaching by Shamrock and its affiliate, Coastech Research.
The reactors used in the plant and other associated modules were designed by an in-house project team that will also oversee the construction and commissioning of the plant. The company estimates that the project will cost about $250,000.
According to Ulli Rath, president, the bioleach plant will be capable of continuously treating 1-2 tons per day of concentrate feed, or alternatively, 3-5 tons per day of ore. In order to be as flexible as possible, each process unit of the plant was designed as a module that can be transported and operated individually as components of a fully integrated gold recovery circuit.
After the commissioning phase, the pilot plant will be contracted out to outside groups for on-site, full-scale pilot programs. Shamrock intends to use the data generated from test programs to provide process design criteria for a commercial plant using the bioleaching technology.
