A human rights tribunal has ordered Cameco to change its housing policy at the Key Lake uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan after a male employee was suspended for entering women’s quarters.
Power plant operator Andrew Hay filed a sex discrimination complaint with the Human Rights Commission against Key Lake Mining, now operating as Cameco, as a result of his job suspension. At Key Lake, women have unrestricted access to the men’s quarters but men are not allowed in the women’s quarters under any circumstances.
Hay had an invitation from a female resident.
The tribunal ordered Cameco to remove the “no male in female’s quarters” provision and compensate Hay $2,779.70 for lost wages.
Cameco recently filed a preliminary prospectus to raise $100 million.
