Semafo finds new zone

Junior Semafo (SMF-T) has outlined a new zone of mineralization at the Mana gold property in Burkina Faso, West Africa.

In December 2000, Semafo sank 18 holes to follow up trenching completed last summer. Trenching was carried out to test stream-sediment anomalies throughout the property.

Dubbed Wona, the zone strikes for more than 1 km and extends to a depth of 100 metres in places. Results for 15 of the 18 drill holes for which results are available include 9 metres averaging 6.3 grams, 9 metres averaging 5.4 grams and 29 metres averaging 3.14 grams. Mineralization appears to be hosted by three structures of highly deformed acidic tuffs. Silification and quartz-veining occur locally.

The Wona zone lies about 7 km north of the Nyafe deposit, where 1 million tonnes grading 8.5 grams gold per tonne have been outlined. Both zones remain open in all directions.

An induced-polarization survey has detected anomalies extending from Wona, as well as a separate anomaly to the east, but both have yet to be tested.
