Drilling by Montreal-based Semafo (SMF-T) on the Mana gold property in Burkina Faso, West Africa, hgas increased the strike length of the Wona zone to 2.4 km.
The last four reverse circulation holes targeting the northeastern extension were stopped in ore and returned 35 meters running 4.85 grams gold per tonne, 44 metres of 4.8 grams, 42 metres of 3.6 grams and 29 metres of 3.6 grams.
The last 700 metres of the zone has a minimum horizontal thickness of 25 metres. The zone is almost closed to the south, but remains opens to the northeast, and extends onto the Kona property.
The drilling also cut above average grade in a 15 metre-wide quartz vein lying at the hangingwall of the mineralized structure . Hole 47 returned 19 metres (from 49 metres below surface) running 12.9 grams gold per tonne.
Discovered early last year, Wona hosts estimated indicated resources of 3.5 million tonnes grading 2.38 grams gold per tonne, based on a cutoff grade of 0.5 gram gold. Of the total resource, 1.8 million tonnes of oxide ore run 2.45 grams gold and 1.7 million tonnes of sulphide ore average 2.31 grams gold.
Gold mineralization is hosted by three structures in highly deformed felsic tuffs. Locally, the rocks are silicified and quartz-veined.
Preliminary “bottle-roll” cyanidation tests performed on RC cuttings from Wona returned an average recovery of 90% for oxide material above 50 metres.
Wona lies 7 km north of the Nyafe deposit, where 1 million tonnes grading 8.5 grams gold have been outlined.
