Results from reverse-circulation drilling by Montreal-based
The 28-hole program, which tested depths down to about 100 metres, indicated that the Mana concession’s Nyafe vein system has a continuous mineralized length of about 1.4 km. Trenching and sampling in 1999 had encountered mineralization over a strike length of 1.7 km on surface.
The strongly mineralized zones on the system appear to form three main “shoot” structures. The zones are both conductive and chargeable, and electromagnetic and induced-polarization surveys largely confirm the interpretation.
Among the better intersections encountered in recent drilling, five holes in the western part of the structure cut lengths of 3 to 9 metres that showed average grades of 4.6 to 15.9 grams gold per tonne.
Semafo geologists also mapped a series of structures parallel to the Nyafe vein system. The mapping led to sampling on the Nyafe Southeast structure, 300 metres east of the main Nyafe prospect. Trenches on the structure found mineralization over surface widths of 2 to 4 metres, with average gold grades of between 4.1 and 12.2 grams per tonne.
Work on both prospects has been suspended for the rainy season, which arrived in July this year, slightly early. Semafo expects to bring a drill back on to the property in mid-September.
