Results from thirty-six drill holes totaling 5,380 metres at Semafo‘s (SMF-T) Mana mine in Burkina Faso in West Africa confirm the continuity of the mineralization in the Kona Zone immediately northeast and on strike with Mana’s Wona open pit.
The reverse-circulation drill holes covered the Kona mineralization over a strike length of 1 km, using 50-metre interval spacing. Results include local wide and higher grade intervals including 4.44 grams gold across 21metres and will be incorporated into a resource estimate and the economic portion of the mine plan, the company says.
Highlights from the drilling include hole 138, which returned 10 metres of 4.18 grams gold per tonne; hole 142, which cut 7 metres of 4.83 grams gold per tonne; and hole 147 that cut 20 metres of 1.52 grams gold per tonne. Other notable results were hole 164’s 23 metres of 3.22 grams gold, including 5 metres of 7.98 grams gold; and hole 165, which returned 1.75 grams gold over 29 metres.
Gold is mined from two open pits at Mana — Wona and Nyafe. The mine started operations in April 2008 and is about 200 km west of Burkina Faso’s capital city, Ouagadougou.
In addition to the Mana mine, Semafo owns the Samira Hill mine in Niger and the Kiniero mine in Guinea.
In Toronto Semafo is trading at about $8.97 per share and has a 52-week trading range of $2.49-$9.98 per share.
