Based on encouraging exploration results, Falconbridge Ltd. is proposing a second phase of exploration for the Lac Barry project, held under option by Beaufield Resources. Located 140 km northeast of Senneterre, Que., the project comprises four claim blocks totalling 192 claims.
Beaufield, which spent $320,000 on the first phase, has budgeted $1.2 million for the second phase program. This work is scheduled to begin in May and will continue through to February, 1988, Falconbridge says.
The first phase work, which was completed in February, included surface geophysical surveys and linecutting which identified numerous conductors. Falconbridge found the results encouraging as several of the geophysical anomalies are associated with zones of economic grading gold mineralization on three of the four properties.
The follow-up program will include 35,000 ft of diamond drilling, geological mapping and geochemical sampling. Beaufield, which was listed for trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange, has $5 million of flow-through funds available for its exploration programs this year. The company can earn a 49% interest in the properties by spending a total of $2 million on exploration.
