Nichol and his research team will also be testing the effectiveness of an innovative Soviet-developed technique called CHIM. Based on electrogeochemistry, this method involves running a strong current through the ground to determine the presence of mineral deposits.
“Examples from Soviet literature show this procedure works where traditional surface geochemistry is an absolute failure,” says Nichol. “If it can be shown to work in areas of northern Ontario where exploration is difficult due to complexities in the surface structure, it would represent a major breakthrough.”
