Seahawk Minerals (SKM-V) is encouraged by the first round of drilling at its Blackwater gold property in Guyana.
The company has drilled 12 angle holes, spanning 1,500 metres, on the Macedonia Creek anomaly, where auger drilling and geophysical surveys found coincident anomalies. The program has confirmed the extension of mineralization in saprolite into the subsurface bedrock.
The property, situated in the Potaro mining district, 70 km west of the Omai gold mine, contains three prospecting licences: Deer Creek, Blackwater Creek and South Blackwater Creek. Together, these comprise more than 15,500 ha.
Highlights from drilling include:
* hole 4A, which returned 25 metres grading 1.13 grams gold per tonne (the mineralization was found below the saprolite, from 54 to 79 metres, and included a 14-metre interval grading 1.63 grams per tonne);
* hole 4B, which encountered 68 metres of 1.06 grams from 69 to 137 metres (the interval included a 6-metre interval grading 3.68 grams and a 7-metre interval of 3.15 grams);
* hole 5, which hit 19.5 metres of 1 gram from 68.5 to 88 metres; * hole 9, which returned 35 metres of 1 gram from 43 to 78 metres, including 10 metres grading 3.2 grams; and
* hole 10, which encountered 7.5 metres of 2.1 grams per tonne from 73.5 metres to 81 metres.
“These are all hard rock values, which proves the gold grades in the saprolites didn’t come from secondary enrichment,” says Christopher Taylor, president of Seahawk.
Previous exploration outlined two soil anomalies (measuring 5 by 3 km, and 4 by 2 km), based on 12,500 1-metre auger holes, as well as more than 4,000 deep auger holes.
Seahawk operates the project under a joint venture with Pegasus Gold (PGU-X).
Adjacent to Blackwater, on the Northfork property, Seahawk holds a Type B medium-scale prospecting licence with a Guyanese company. Auger drilling on the 9,000-ha property has defined two soil anomalies. One measures 2,000 by 1,000 metres, while the other, which is called the Minnehaha shear zone, measures 3,500 by 750 metres.
Seahawk has drilled several holes on the Minnehaha zone (assay results are pending) and plans to drill several more. (More holes will be drilled at Blackwater in the next few months, as well.)
Seahawk has also completed 88 line km of magnetic-field and very-low-frequency electromagnetic field surveys over the Northfork property.
