Private companies Orapro Resources and Shannon Oils are planning to conduct a joint exploration program to search for diamond-bearing kimberlites in western Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan. Shaun Spelliscy, president of Orapro, said airborne geophysical data is currently being reviewed by the companies to determine which targets merit the highest priority. Ground magnetic surveys will then be conducted to delineate targets for drilling in the fall of 1991.
The claims held by Orapro and Shannon total nearly 10,000 acres and cover various selected geophysical targets. Other companies exploring for diamonds in the area include Cameco and the Canadian exploration wing of De Beers.
Junior mining company Scintilore Explorations (TSE) recently gave up its legal challenge to ownership of the David Bell mine in the Hemlo gold camp of northern Ontario. Scintilore had been appealing a 1989 judge’s ruling disallowing Scintilore’s staking in 1988 of claims hosting the mine.
The David Bell mine is owned on a 50-50 basis by Teck (TSE) and Corona (TSE). Placed into production in 1986, the mine turned out more than 300,000 oz. gold in 1990.
Scintilore alleged in its court action that Teck and Corona did not hold legal title to the claims in question.
A separate lawsuit launched by Scintilore against prospectors John Larche and Donald McKinnon, alleging in part a breach of fiduciary duties and fraud and related to claims staked in the Hemlo region, continues, the company said.
