Keynote speaker at the Mining Industry Communications Workshop Oct. 20-22 at the Alexis Park Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., will be Dixy Lee Ray. Her topic is “Speaking out on the environment.”
Ray is a senior scholar for environmental health and safety at the University of Maryland, a former governor of the state of Washington and a recipient of the United Nations Peace prize.
Participants in the workshop will receive copies of her new book Trashing the Planet which, she says, “is an effort to clarify environmental issues, to separate fact from factoid, to unmask the doom-crying opponents of all progress, and to re-establish a sense of reason and balance with respect to the environment and modern technology.”
The workshop is sponsored by the American Mining Congress and the National Coal Association.
