Sandvik Mining and Construction has signed a contract to supply Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (POT-T, POT-N) with a fleet of Sandvik MF420 Borer Miners.
Sandvik says the deal is its largest order in the soft mining sector to date.
“These machines represent a significant order for the underground soft-rock mining segment within Sandvik Mining and Construction,” said Lars Josefsson, the supplier’s president, in a press release.
Sandvik will ship the MF420s, which are 42 ft. long, weigh 235 tonnes and are capable of cutting 13 ft. high and 20 ft. wide, in 2010. The equipment will be used at Potash Corp.’s Picadilly underground potash mine in New Brunswick.
The MF420 can cut and convey 15 tonnes of potash ore per minute, depending on the haulage system being used.
