Trenching on the San Fernando gold project in Mexico is returning gold values for owner San Fernando Mining (TSE).
The trenching returned 0.14 oz. per ton across a continuous exposure of 62.2 ft. in the Meloncita West zone. The zone is in a new exploration area about 3,300 ft. southwest of the Fortuna mine, where previous work was centred.
Sampling results traced the zone on surface for 820 ft. from the trenching. The north-south-trending structure dips at about 45 to the east, and gold values are associated with tourmaline breccias in quartz monzonite intrusive rocks within an intensely oxidized zone.
This year, $2 million will be spent on work which will include 13,000 ft. of diamond drilling on targets outside the Fortuna mine area, such as the Meloncita zone.
A further 20,000 ft. of infill drilling and a minimum of 7,000 ft. of diamond drilling is planned for the Fortuna mine. Drilling last year included 38,000 ft. of core drilling which outlined a drill-indicated resource of 5.1 million tons grading 0.27% copper and 0.078 oz. gold plus 1.1 oz. silver per ton.
