San Andreas expands Prairie Creek

Drilling has expanded the in situ geological resource at the Prairie Creek project, 500 km west of Yellowknife, N.W.T.

Owner San Andreas Resources (TSE) estimates the resource at 10.6 million tonnes grading 13.1% zinc and 11.3% lead, plus 188 grams silver per tonne, compared with a previous estimate of 6.2 million tonnes of 12.9% zinc, 12.2% lead and 180 grams silver.

The company drilled seven stepout holes on the zone 3 vein, extending the strike length northward by 1.25 km for an overall length of 2.1 km.

The vein remains open to the north, with excellent potential along strike for associated stratiform mineralization.

High-grade, stratiform mineralization is identified in five areas, between zones 6 and 3. The mineralization is hosted in the same rock formation, extending over 3.5 km, and the stratigraphy outcrops for a further 5 km to the south.

The property was developed in the early 1980s as a silver mine. A 1,100-tonne-per-day milling complex was constructed, but work ground to a halt as a result of financing difficulties.

The zone 3 vein is adjacent to the mill and mine site, and is accessible by two main levels of underground workings.

The vein will be infill-drilled in 1996, in preparation for a feasibility study and permitting.
