Samatosum mine ahead of schedule

Project operator and 70%-owner Minnova Inc. (TSE) began start-up in the latter part of May, leading to initial shipments of lead and zinc concentrates in the first half of June. More than 200 tons of copper/ silver concentrates have yet to be shipped.

Rea Gold said the open pit mine is now developed and able to supply sufficient ore to maintain mill throughput at its rated capacity of 500 tons per day. Mill commissioning is also reported to have progressed well; during the first four weeks the mill operated at between 50%-70% of capacity.

At prevailing metal prices, the Samatosum mine is expected to generate in excess of $40 million in revenues from sales of copper/ silver, lead/silver/gold and zinc concentrates during the first full year of production.
