Rubicon hits sulphides

Rubicon Minerals (RMX-V) has intersected sulphide mineralization at its Palmer base metal project near Haines, Alaska.

The discovery was made in a previously unexplored region, about 600 ft.

from the Little Jarvis showing and 1,600 ft. from the Upper Main zone showing. Rubicon speculates that the new discovery, which it calls the “RW zone,” represents a flat, mineralized corridor that connects the two showings.

Hole 10 intersected 15 ft. of massive barite with stringer zinc mineralization grading 4.01% zinc and 0.4% copper, plus 15.6 grams silver and 0.091 gram gold per tonne, starting at a down-hole depth of 531.5 ft.

This included a 5.5-ft. section of 5.31% zinc, 0.31% copper 35.3 grams silver and 0.15 gram gold.

Farther down-hole, a 9-ft. section assayed 0.24% zinc, 2.29% copper, 19.3 grams silver and 0.3 gram gold. This included a 5.7-ft interval of 0.34% zinc, 3.18% copper, 27.3 grams silver and 0.41 gram gold.

The drill cut through highly altered rhyolite after intersecting a copper-rich interval. Additional assays are pending.

Follow-up hole 11 was drilled from the same pad and intersected more sulphide mineralization 220 ft. downdip of hole 10. Visual inspection of the core has revealed 7.4 ft. of massive and semi-massive sulphides, as well as sulphide-rich barite. Assays for this interval are expected shortly.

Says Michael Gray, a director of Rubicon: “If you drew a quick section, hole 10 was drilled at minus 70 to the south, hole 11 is a vertical hole from the same setup, and the one we are drilling now, hole 12, is being drilled at minus 50 to the south, also from the same pad.”

The junior will next carry out a 5-to-8 hole, 4,000-ft. drill program on the property.
