Royal Mint unveils commemorative gold coin

The Royal Canadian Mint has launched the 1996 $200 gold coin, commemorating the transcontinental railroad.

Valued at $414.95, the 22-carat coin honors the railway’s contribution to the formation of the country, says Diana Beattie, vice-president of corporate affairs for the Mint.

The coin features a design by Suzanne Duranceau and consists of 91.67% gold and 8.33% silver. No more than 25,000 coins will be distributed worldwide.
