Toronto-based junior Romios Gold Resources (RGRI-C) has enlarged its Lundmark-Akow Lake property in northwestern Ontario and launched a diamond drill program.
Prompted by the discovery of “potentially significant amounts of gold” in a deformation zone, the company staked an additional 145 claims, bringing it to 604 claims (24,160 acres). It is now the largest land position in the area, after the Musselwhite gold deposit owned jointly by Placer Dome (PDG-T) and TVX Gold (TVX-T). Both projects are in the North Caribou Lake greenstone belt.
Drilling at Lundmark-Akow is intended to test the gold-bearing deformation zone (where, previously, unusually high gold values were encountered in surface sampling), as well as several electromagnetic conductors strategically situated in banded iron formations (BIF).
The program will comprise 20 holes, eight of which have been completed.
Assays are pending.
Lundmark-Akow is underlain by BIF that strikes for more than 23 km and is analogous to the BIF that hosts the 3-million-oz. Musselwhite deposit, 18 km to the southeast.
