Roman named officer of Order of Canada

The chairman of Denison Mines, Stephen Roman, has been named an officer of the Order of Canada by Governor- General Jeanne Sauve.

Roman, a resident of Unionville, Ont., was one of 22 officers, 43 members and two companions named to the order near the end of 1987. The order, established in 1967, recognizes outstanding achievement and service.

Born in Slovakia, Roman, 66, came to Canada in 1937. He first burst onto the mining scene in 1946 following formation of the Concord Mining Syndicate.

Today, Roman’s Denison is an international company involved in a variety of interests, including uranium, coal, potash, oil and gas and gold exploration.
