Roberto improves with drilling

Virginia Gold Mines (VIA-T) has cut significant gold at its lonore property, 320 km north of Matagami, in the Opineca reservoir area of James Bay, Que.

Fifteen holes (2,200 metres) were drilled on the Roberto zone, highlighted by intersections from four holes with true widths such as:

  • 18.85 grams gold over 13 metres,
  • 27.77 grams gold over 2.8 metres,
  • 20.7 grams gold over 4 metres, and
  • 22.9 grams gold per tonne over 3.2 metres.

Ten other holes graded from 7-18.1 grams gold per tonne over true widths of 2.5-14 metres.

The Roberto zone has been intersected over a 200-metre strike length and to a vertical depth of 125 metres. The zone strikes north and dips about 80 towards the east. It is open in all directions. Surface channel samples have extended the zone another 100 metres. To the south the zone is overlain by a lake.

New channel samples assayed up to 6 grams gold over 6 metres (included in a 24-metre intercept that grades 2.8 grams gold per tonne). Another graded 8.4 grams gold over 6 metres (this includes a 2-metre intercept that grades 23.4 grams gold per tonne).

The Roberto Est zone is exposed about 50 metres east of the Roberto zone. It has been traced in trenches for about 200 metres along strike.

Drilling was located to intersect this zone at shallow depth above the Roberto zone. Highlights from this zone include 2 metres grading 10.4 grams gold at a downhole depth of 5 metres and 5-metres that graded 7.7 grams gold per tonne at a downhole depth of 52 metres. Assays are pending for four holes.

The lonore project is one of several gold projects that Virginia Gold is working on in the James Bay region.
