Doyen of Canadian mining, Norman Keevil will be roasted Nov. 24 at Vancouver’s Pan Pacific Hotel.
The roast will be preceded by a murder mystery (“Mystery of the O’Dunne Sapphire”) and a dinner at the hotel. Tickets are $250 per person or $2,500 for a corporate table of 10. All proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Museum of Nature’s new program “What Mining and Minerals Mean to Canada,” which portrays the industry’s contribution to the country’s wealth and its importance in our daily lives.
The program, estimated to cost $1.5 million to produce and maintain, will feature a permanent exhibit at the museum’s Viola MacMillan Mineral Gallery and a travelling exhibit at shopping malls, schools and community gathering places throughout Canada over the next 15 years. It will also address environmental issues and show how new technologies are making mining safer, more productive and environmentally friendly.
Keevil helped to raise funds for Canada’s acquisition of the Pinch Mineral Collection, the centrepiece of the Viola MacMillan Mineral Gallery.
