Construction of an all-weather road to Novamin Resources’ Rundle gold property, 65 miles southwest of Timmins, Ont., has been completed.
During t he past year the company has completed more than 55,000 ft of drilling and has drill- indicated 550,000 tons with an average grade of 0.21 oz gold per ton. The mineralization system is expanding with depth, having a strike length of 250 ft at the 300-ft level and 660 ft at the 825-ft level.
The company has negotiated a contract with J. S. Redpath Ltd. under which the original Hollinger shaft, sunk in 1941, will be deepened to 900 ft from 375 ft. A station will be cut at the 600-ft level and an exploration drift and drilling cross- cut will be driven on the 825-ft level. A total of 50,000 ft of underground drilling will be carried out, with an additional 10,000 ft from surface. A decline will also be driven to the 400-ft level to bulk-sample the ore, to provide a second access and to explore a new ore zone west of the shaft area.
The total work program will cost about $6 million, provided by flow- through funding. When the program is finished, it is expected that ore reserves will be sufficient to justify a feasibility study upon which to base a production decision, Novamin says.
