River makes progress at Edwards

The first underground assays from the Edwards mine of VenCan Gold (VCG-M) reveal grades similar to those indicated by drilling.

River Gold Mines (RIV-T) has completed more than 240 ft. of sill drifting at the 66-ft. level in the Carbonate and Porphyry zones. The company paid $500,000 for the right to develop the Edwards mine and receive half its profits (after recouping development expenses).

Chip samples taken along the working sill drift on the Carbonate zone returned a weighted average of 0.7 oz. gold per ton across a width of 4.26 ft. and a total drift length of 125.6 ft. Muck samples, taken after each round along the Carbonate zone drift, averaged 0.78 oz. gold along the drift length of 125 ft. VenCan reports that the muck assays were diluted over the total width of the drift, which, at 6-10 ft., is much wider than the proposed average stope width of 4-5 ft.

Chip samples taken along the working sill drift on the Porphyry zone returned a weighted average grade of 0.21 oz. gold across 4.26 ft, along a total length of 117.4 ft. Surface data had indicated a lower grade of 0.14 oz. gold across 5 ft.

The Carbonate and Porphyry zones contain a drill-indicated resource of 143,576 tons grading 0.843 oz. gold per ton.

The Edwards mine is 50 km northeast of Wawa, Ont.
