Drilling has confirmed the strike extension and continuity of high-grade gold mineralization at the Valle-Boinas gold deposit in northern Spain, reports Rio Narcea Gold Mines (TSE).
At the Boinas West property, drilling has resulted in an increase in shallow oxide gold resources. Mineralization has now been delineated over a strike length of 190 metres, with the continuity of high-grade mineralization in this zone established over 90 metres.
Two of the best intercepts from the recent program include 24 metres averaging 4.31 grams gold per tonne at a downhole depth of 76 metres in hole BW-14, and 19 metres grading 2.23 grams at a depth of 54 metres in hole BW-12. The intercepts occur in oxidized, jasperoid breccia and altered, porphyry sills along the updip edge of the Boinas granodiorite.
The Boinas West deposit remains open downdip and along strike to the southwest, which is the present focus of exploration.
Offset drilling at Boinas East has also delineated additional gold mineralization. Holes 39 and 40 encountered gold mineralization in a partially oxidized skarn and jasperoid breccia at the base of the granodiorite intrusive at the southern end of the Valle-Boinas deposit. Hole 39 intersected 5.7 metres of 9.4 grams at a depth of 184 metres, and 9 metres of 13.8 grams at a depth of 204 metres. Drilling is targeting possible mineralization along the updip and western edge of the intrusive body.
On the recently acquired Mari Luz exploitation concession, 2 km northeast of El Valle, mapping has identified a 500-metre-wide, northwest-trending, high-density fracture zone. The zone includes at least three parallel structures, the two western-most of which contain mineralized breccias. Anomalous gold values have been encountered in each of the structures. The two highest gold values, 1.19 grams and 6.37 grams, are related to a breccia in the centre of the zone.
The company plans to continue exploring other targets in the Rio Narcea gold belt, along with other, parallel belts to the west.
