Richmont forges ahead at Hammerdown project

Richmont Mines (RIC-T) has received heartening results from bulk sampling at the Hammerdown gold property in northwestern Newfoundland.

Between July and September, Richmont extracted 19,300 tons grading 0.46 oz. per ton. The material, which yielded 8,700 oz. for a gold recovery rate of 97.7%, was processed at the company’s Nugget Pond mine, 142 km away.

Hammerdown hosts proven and probable reserves of 443,000 tons grading 0.47 oz. per ton. Another 334,000 tons grading 0.33 oz. are classified as a resource.

Richmont expects to make a production decision on Hammerdown by the second quarter. It continues to drive an access ramp, which, to date, has advanced 350 ft.

Mined material from Hammerdown would be treated at Nugget Pond. Together, the two deposits are expected to yield 56,500 oz. in 2001 at a cash cost of US$140 per oz.
