Preliminary results from zone D-8 North, D-8 South and D-9 confirm the platinum potential of the Delta project in the Ungava region of northern Quebec, Oasis Resources says.
The project, which covers 333 sq km in the Cape Smith area near the New Quebec Raglan Mines nickel- copper deposit, involves Falconbridge Ltd (51%), Oasis (34%) and Messeguay Mines (15%).
Not included in the preliminary results are assays from the most promising zone, Delta North/North. Oasis says this zone, composed of pegmatite-gabbro with disseminated sulphides, is similar to platinum mineralizations of the Bushveld type.
The Delta-8 South zone is 45 m thick, located at the gabbro-peridatite contact and characterized mainly by interstitial sulphides. The Delta-8 North zone, 55 m thick, encloses semi-massive and massive sulphide lenses as well as disseminated sulphide at the contact with sedimentary rocks. The Delta-9 zone contains massive sulphide lenses at the gabbro-sediment contact.
Among the results were hole No 27, which intersected 11.4 g platinum per tonne, 5.85 g palladium, 3.4 g gold, 3.5% copper and 3.4% nickel across 0.2 m; hole no 86, which included 5.11 g platinum, 0.15 g palladium and 6.98 g gold across 0.2 m; and hole No 35, which cut 4 g platinum, 2.74 g palladium, traces of gold, 6.1% copper and 5.9% nickel across 1.7 m.
