Some 89 studies in geology and geophysics will be supported under research grants totalling $1.39 million in 1987-1988, from the federal Department of Energy Mines and Resources.
The department’s research agreements program will support 171 projects in 40 research centres in Canada in the natural, physical and social sciences and in engineering. The recipients are from 34 universities, five provincial research institutes and one private research group.
About 47% of the 1987-1988 funds will be used for studies in earth sciences, 29% for energy research and 24% for mining and minerals research.
The studies in geology and geophysics will complement the work of the Geological Survey of Canada, the department says.
Thirty four grants will support research in mineral economics, mining, mineral processing and metallurgy, in the areas of long- term supply, taxation policy, new mining methods, ore treatment and metal extraction.
