One of North America’s largest mining contractors and consulting engineers, J. S. Redpath, North Bay, Ont., recently celebrated a quarter century of service to the mining industry.
In Canada alone, the company has been involved with some major mining projects. It has for instance, sunk one of the deepest shafts in the country, (7,137 ft), at Inco Ltd’s Creighton mine in the Sudbury area of Ontario, and, at Contwoyto Lake in the Northwest Territories, Redpath was responsible for the engineering, surface and underground construction of the big Lupin gold mine of Echo Bay Mines.
And, at Hemlo, Redpath held the contract to sink a shaft, drive the ramp and carry out development work at Lac Minerals’ Page- Williams gold mine, later awarded to International Corona in a court judgment still pending possible appeal by Lac to the Supreme Court of Canada.
To mark the Redpath anniversary, a reception was held at the company’s North Bay head offices, and senior management visited all current project sites to present commemorative jackets to every employee.
The company, which is employee- owned, has a workforce of close to 1,000.
The founder of the company, James Redpath, is now chairman. President and chief executive officer is Robert Brown.
