RBC hires Stymiest

Royal Bank of Canada (RY-T) has appointed Barbara Stymiest, former CEO of the TSX Group (X-T), as its new chief operating officer.

Stymiest will be responsible for corporate strategy, and all divisions of the company, including risk management and finance, will report to her. Stymiest in turn will report to RBC President Gordon Nixon and serve on the company’s senior management committee.

Stymiest leaves her position as CEO of the TSX Group, which owns and operates the Toronto Stock Exchange (serving the senior equity market) and the TSX Venture Exchange (serving the public venture equity market).

Prior to joining the TSX, Stymiest was chief financial officer of the Bank of Montreal’s investment banking division.

Stymiest has a master’s of business administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University and is a chartered accountant.
