Earnings of $6.9 million (69 cents per share) for 1987 were recorded by Rayrock Yellowknife Resources, compared with $2.7 million (28 cents per share), after unusual charges of $2.1 million, in 1986.
Revenue totalled $36.1 million in 1987 compared with $30.8 million in 1986. Gold sales, at 35,940 oz, were down almost 2,000 oz in 1987 compared with the previous year. Direct cash operating cost per oz averaged $164(US) in 1987 compared with $145 in 1986.
The company says higher volume and lower unit operating costs in 1986 were the result of unexpected higher grade ore being mined. Gold accounts for more than 60% of Rayrock’s total revenue and 80% of the company’s operating profit.
Rayrock operates three gold mines in Nevada as well as a langbeinite (specialty fertilizer mineral) mine in New Mexico.
