I would like information on some old mining stocks from the late 1940s and early 1950s. My father bought 700 shares of a penny stock called Yukon Galena Hill Mines in 1948-49. He also has a certificate of escrow dated Jan 20, 1950, for 135 shares of Consolidated Yukeno Mines. Another stock certificate he holds is for 75 shares of Yukeno Mines Ltd., dated Mar 29, 1951. I would appreciate any information you can provide on these companies. A. L. Jensen Wetaskiwin, Alta.
Yukon Galena Hill Mines, your father’s original stock purchase, became Consolidated Yukeno Mines in 1949, and the shares were consolidated on a basis of one new for three old shares held.
In February, 1951 Yukeno Mines Ltd. acquired the assets of Consolidated Yukeno Mines, each shareholder receiving one share of Yukeno for two shares of Consolidated Yukeno held.
The above re-organizations created Yukeno Mines from the predecessor companies (Consolidated Yukeno Mines Ltd., and Yukon Galena Hill Mines).
During the 1950s, Yukeno Mines explored a number of silver-lead- zinc properties in the Mayo Mining district of the Yukon Territory. Many of its properties adjoined claims held by United Keno Hill Mines.
In 1966, Yukeno Mines reorganized its capital structure and changed its name to Gradore Mines Ltd., on a basis of one new share for each five of Yukeno Mines held. This means, for example, your father’s 75 shares in Yukeno would have then become equivalent to 15 shares of Gradore.
The new company, Gradore, was unable to raise money for further exploration work, and its treasury gradually became depleted. The company’s Ontario Charter was cancelled in October, 1972.
