I have a certificate for 500 shares in a company called Yama Gold Mines Ltd. The shares were purchased for a price of $1 each in 1939. Can you please advise me on the status of this company? Paul Forestell
Yama Gold Mines is not a currently active company. Its assets were acquired over 40 years ago by another company. You would be well advised to contact the transfer agent and trust company listed on the certificate for details of the recorded share exchange transactions. The trust company could also tell you if your share certificate is currently exchangeable.
According to our records, the assets of Yama Gold Mines were acquired in 1943 by a company called Cathroy Larder Mines Ltd. The latter company sold its properties in 1961 to Mirado Nickel Mines Ltd., for $7,500 cash and 500,000 shares of Royado Mines, a subsidiary of Mirado. Yama Gold sold its property to Cathroy Larder on a share basis of one new for three old subject to pool. Yama lost its Ontario charter and was dissolved on Jan 2, 1956.
