I have some old share certificates for the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada, which my late husband purchased in 1958. I am trying to settle the estate and would like to know where I can cash them in. Muriel H. George Toronto, Ont.
The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada is now Cominco Limited, a major base metal mining company. The company’s shares are traded on the Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver stock exchanges. Cominco is one of the world’s largest producers of zinc and lead. In addition to its other mines, the company operates the western world’s northernmost base metal mine, located on Little Cornwallis Island, N.W.T.
Cominco’s shares have been trading around the $21 range recently on the Toronto Stock Exchange. You will have to sell your share certificates through a stockbroker if you wish to cash them in. Look in the yellow pages under stock and bond brokers for one near you, or ask the bank you use to recommend a broker.
