A $300,000 (US) drill program is planned on Queenstake Resources’ Argus gold project near Bakersfield, Calif.
About 12,000 ft of drilling will be carried out in 1988 with the goal of bringing the Davenport vein deposit to the feasibility stage, President Gordon Gutrath says. Childs International, which is funding the program, can earn a 60% interest in the property by spending $1 million(US) by 1989.
Recent exploration, including 4,210 ft of reverse circulation drilling in November, succeeded in defining two areas of ore grade mineralization along the Davenport vein system, containing an estimated 1,016,600 tons of indicated reserves averaging 0.064 oz gold per ton.
The vein has now been tested by drilling along almost 2,000 ft of strike length, Gutrath reports. Surface sampling for an additional 1,200 ft to the west of the drilled areas has located several wide zones of gold mineralization, including a section at the Hermosa Mine workings which yielded 0.055 oz gold over a 155-ft-wide zone.
A 3,000-lb sample of Davenport ore is now being column leach tested at the Bateman Metallurgical Laboratory in Sparks, Nev. Additional metallurgical testing is planned this year, as well as baseline engineering and environmental studies.
