The American Mines Handbook, a compendium of mining companies active in the U.S. and other related information which is printed annually by Southam Business Communications Inc., is changing its publishing date from mid- February to the end of September. Editor Cindy Gardiner said the February date meant the book was coming out just as the annual report season was beginning and, therefore, information included in the book was soon out of date.
“By publishing in September, we’ll be able to do it right after the Canadian Mines Handbook and so be able to include the most recent financial statements, reserve and production figures and other data,” she said.
The Canadian handbook, marking its 60th anniversary this year and to be put together for the first time using desktop publishing technology, will appear in early July.
To be added to the 1991 American handbook — the third edition of the reference work — will be a buyer’s guide featuring the names of about 1,500 companies supplying services throughout North America and an expanded list of producing mines to include industrial minerals.
