Prof compiles deposit data

An economic geology professor at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg has set up a library of samples, thin sections, photos and maps from more than 3,000 ore deposits around the world.

Dr. Peter Laznicka says “Data Metallogenica” is a compilation of samples and information he has gathered from more than 100 countries. The samples are arranged according to lithology (rock type).

Laznicka is developing a computerized search program for the data. He says the system will help geologists generate targets and evaluate properties.
