Production starts at Redstone mine

The first deliveries of nickel ore from the Redstone mine were recently shipped, and owner Black Hawk Mining (TSE) is planning annual production of 5 million lb. nickel.

Reserves at Redstone, 22 km southeast of Timmins, Ont., stand at 182,325 tonnes grading 3.28% nickel and 0.038% cobalt.

Ore is being shipped to the Strathcona mill of Falconbridge (TSE) in Sudbury, which has a purchase contract with Black Hawk for 300 tonnes per day for a minimum of two years. BLM Mining Services is mining the deposit under contract. Black Hawk continues to explore the deposit at depth and along strike.

At Black Hawk’s Vogel property in Hoyle Twp., just east of Timmins, preliminary resources are estimated at 697,484 tonnes grading 11.28 grams gold per tonne.

This figure includes the two largest mineralized bodies yet delineated on the property, the V-1 and V-2 zones. Three smaller zones will be incorporated into the resource figure as drill information is compiled.
