Mining companies at the Porcupine gold camp in Ontario are gaining the upper hand on production rates, which dwindled during the war. New discoveries at operating mines, the return of the workforce from foreign soil, government aid and higher gold prices are all credited with helping bolster the camp. In 1949, the Hollinger, Dome and McIntyre mines produced more gold than in any year following the war, and several juniors are now drilling on properties near existing operations.
