The New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) may soon be adding platinum bars stamped with the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union to its trading inventory. The Soviet agency responsible for exporting the precious metal, Almas, recently applied to Nymex for brand approval. The USSR supplies about 14% of the world’s platinum group metals.
