Continuing exploration drilling by Placer Dome US is going on in an area of several square miles located 6 to 8 miles north of Nome, Alaska in ongoing evaluation of lode gold deposits discovered by Aspen Exploration in 1986. To date 173 holes have been completed with a total of 33,000 ft of hole drilled.
Drilling has been directed primarily toward additional definition and extension of the Rock Creek gold occurrences. Results have been highly encouraging but considerable work remains to be done to define grades as well as the vertical and horizontal extent of the gold- bearing zones.
Placer is operating, and earning an interest in two separate but adjoining 9,000-acre areas, under an agreement with Nome Gold Joint Venture of Denver consisting of Aspen Exploration Corp. (70%) and Northern Gold (30%).
