Placer Dome options massive sulphide bet

The Dream project is located within the same rock package as several other precious metals rich massive sulphide deposits in the region, including BP Minerals’ Greens Creek deposit and Geddes Resources’ Windy Craggy deposit.

Based on a recent agreement in principle, Placer Dome can earn a 60% interest from International Curator Resources (VSE) by spending $2 million on exploration and development over three years. The agreement also allows Placer Dome to purchase $200,000 of International Curator’s shares. This year Placer Dome is planning an extensive $300,000 mapping and sampling program in preparation for diamond drilling.

Work on the property to date has located three distinct zones of mineralization, all in the same stratigraphic position and occurring over a strike length of three miles.

The Discovery zone, considered the best mapped showing to date, consists of three distinct layers of mineralization over a 75-ft stratigraphic thickness. According to International Curator, these layers are up to 4 ft thick and can be traced in outcrop for up to 200 ft of strike, and by rubble and float for over 1,500 ft of strike. Continuous chip samples collected every 20 ft along 200 ft of outcrop are reported to have averaged 0.6 oz gold and 0.37% cobalt.

The CP zone, situated about 1.5 miles to the south, consists of four distinct layers of stratabound chalcopyrite-pyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization over a stratigraphic thickness of 125 ft. International Curator said continuous chip sampling through massive chalcopyrite beds yielded values as high as 5.6% copper and 6.3 oz silver per ton.

The Zn-Pb zone is located about one mile north of the Discovery zone. Although only one exposure was sampled before the end of the working season, International Curator said the mineralization is significant in that galena and sphalerite layers were well laminated and exhibited excellent primary depositional textures. The 1.5 ft chip sample returned values of 1.16% lead, 5.04% zinc and 0.01 oz gold per ton.
