Placer Dome names new CEO

After a far-reaching search, Placer Dome (TSE) appointed John Willson as president and chief executive officer to replace Anthony Petrina who resigned from both positions in mid-September of this year.

Willson holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in mining engineering from the Royal School of Mines in the United Kingdom. For the past four years, he was president of Pegasus Gold (TSE), a Spokane-based producer which operates five gold mines in the U.S. Willson’s earlier career took him to Africa and eventually to Greenland where he oversaw the development and was mine manager of Cominco’s Black Angel mine.
