Placer almost done draining Paymaster

The property, which hosts the past-producing Paymaster gold mine, is in Tisdale and Deloro twps., near Timmins, Ont. The mine operated from 1934 until 1966 and produced some 1.16 million oz of gold.

American Reserve reports that dewatering to the bottom of the No 5 shaft (4,300-ft) is scheduled to reach completion by mid-November. At that time, installation of the No 6 winze hoist will begin, and several weeks of pumping will be required to complete dewatering to the bottom of the mine (6,025-ft).

According to a previous report, there are about 580,729 tons of material grading 0.22 oz gold per ton at depths of up to 6,000 ft in the No 6 wi nze area.

Underground diamond drilling is planned later this month to explore an area west of the No 5 shaft on the 2575- and 3300-ft levels. In mid-January, another drill program testing the main orebody will get under way starting on the 5425-ft level and continue to test a 1,200-ft vertical section to depths of below 6,475 ft.

A surface exploration program designed to identify possible open pit material is also under way. This work includes bulldozer and backhoe trenching to identify targets for a 10,000-ft winter drill program.

According to American Reserve president Carl Zuber, the companies are also investigating the economics of recovering ore remaining in an area called the “Preston Party Wall,” between the Dome mine and the Paymaster property. Gold- bearing veins in this area were mined from workings on both sides to a depth of 4,000 ft, and are still accessible from the Dome mine, Zuber said.
