The Whitewood Creek gold tailings project near the Black Hills of South Dakota is in the initial stages of mine permitting, Goldstake Explorations (TSE) reports. Goldstake’s joint venture partner in the project is Homestake Mining (NYSE), which has been mining gold from underground in the immediate area since before the turn of the century.
The permit application, Goldstake says, will be submitted upon completion of conceptual design parameters, including a mine plan and layout, and process flow sheet for the method of gold extraction.
The initial mine plan calls for the treatment of about 1.5 million tons of material annually at a head grade of 0.05 oz. gold per ton, based on 300 operating days per year.
Goldstake says a “consent decree” for the project site was signed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and lodged in the public record.
