Pentland Firth looks for Hoyle Pond match

The first round of drilling on two Timmins-area properties owned by Pentland Firth Ventures (TSE) has ended.

The company drilled the Allerston and Wetmore properties, looking for vein systems comparable with those being mined at Kinross Gold’s (TSE) nearby Hoyle Pond gold mine.

Two widely spaced holes cut the NEZ III vein on the Allerston property. The vein was intersected at 2,800 ft. along strike from Kinross’ Bell Creek mine. Other veins intersected include the NEZ I and NEZ II.

As a result of these intersections, the companies are contemplating a 400-ft. program of drifting and raising. The work would be carried out in a southwesterly direction from Kinross’ Bell Creek mine towards the Allerston property boundary. It is expected the NEZ III vein will be drilled with an underground rig after the drifts and raises are completed.

Farther southeast on the Wetmore property, drilling has outlined a northwesterly-striking band of mineralization within podiform zones. The Wetmore is one of several potential “fold noses” found on Pentland Firth ground in the area of Bell Creek and Hoyle Pond.

Drilling is scheduled for four other Pentland properties near the Bell Creek mine. Two rigs will be used to search for mineralization within geological settings similar to those at the Hoyle Pond mine.

In the past six months, Pentland Firth has drilled 29 holes totalling 28,000 ft. in the Timmins area.

The company has also drilled five holes totalling 5,500 ft. on the Golden Highway and Michaud properties, east of Timmins. Follow-up work is planned for Michaud.

Eight holes totalling 4,000 ft. were drilled on the McVicar Lake project in northwestern Ontario, but no further work is planned.
