Although the latest drill results from the Stares property, near Thunder Bay, Ont., proved disappointing, partners
Nine holes totalling 1,014 metres were sunk, seven of which tested coincident induced-polarization highs, resistivity lows and magnetic highs. The anomalies lie between the northern limit of a known mineralized float train and a previously intersected zone of shallow base metal sulphide mineralization. All failed to cut any anomalous base or precious metal mineralization.
The remaining holes were drilled farther to the south and were shorter. But both came back as dead as the others, cuttting through plain granite.
In late 2001, two holes collared on the shallow zone returned up to 2.6 metres running 11.8% zinc, 0.05% lead, 0.03% copper, 109 grams silver and 3.2 grams gold per tonne. Mineralization began at a vertical depth of about 30 metres.
Extensive enzyme-leach geochemical sampling and geological mapping were carried out as well. More than 550 geochemical samples were taken and 30 anomalies were outlined.
The anomalies extend over an area 3.1 km long and 2.5 km wide. Some will be tested in follow-up drilling.
