Operator Cambior (CBJ-T) and equal joint-venture partner MacMillan Gold (MMG-T) have begun an exploration program at the Free Maria gold project, situated in the Huamacucho area of north-central Peru.
The $425,000 program, to be carried out over the next several months, will consist of geological mapping, surface geochemistry and trenching, along with follow-up diamond drilling. To date, surface work has outlined an anomalous area measuring 1,000 metres by 500 metres.
The three Free Maria concessions, which have a combined area of 1,600 ha, are underlain by Cretaceous quartzites intruded by Tertiary intrusive rocks. Gold is associated with the intrusive contacts and occurs both in disseminated stockworks and high-grade veins.
